    The Second China-UK Life Sciences and Healthcare MarketPlace Has Been Held in London

    On 23rd October 2017, the second China-UK Life Sciences and Healthcare MarketPlace 2017 was held with success at the Head office of Pinsent Masons, London. The event focused on private health care, medical devices, drug development and medical investment services and was jointly hosted by Pinsent Masons, Beyondlaboratory and China Investors Club.

    The conference provided in-depth information on Sino-British cooperation in the medical field, on the basis of a platform for the development of barrier-free communication between China and Britain. The Minister Counsellor of Commerce of the Chinese Embassy, Mr JIN and Dr. Jiansheng DU, representing the UK Government’s Department for International Trade (formerly UK Trade and Investment) were invited as distinguished guests to present at the conference.

    Mr JIN delivered the opening speech; he stated that the Sino-British collaboration in healthcare is of a very good direction and is beneficial to both countries in this Golden Era of the Sino-British relationship. Dr Jiansheng DU reported the current situations of investment in the life sciences and medical field in Both the UK and China, he also interpreted the tax policy of doing business between China and Britain. Gabriela Juárez Martínez, a medical technology expert from Innovate, UK, gave participants detailed information about the extensive cooperation in the field of antimicrobial
    resistance (AMR)
    between the UK and China, also encouraging participants to actively join the cooperation. Dr. Luke ZHOU from Beyond Lab, also an organiser of the event, mainly shared the business activities that took place in China this year, introducing the investment environment of China from the aspects of policies, infrastructure & facilities. He also focused on China Medical City, the core pharmaceutical industry park in Jiangsu, Taizhou Province, which provides rich resources for British entrepreneurs and encourages enterprises to collaborate with them strongly.

" In the days following our 2nd Healthcare MarketPlace we have supported over 20 follow-on meetings and received inbound enquiries from investors and partners in China to bring more UK firms to China" continues Mr Franklin "and we look forward to our 2018 programme of market bridging events". Kate Orviss, Global Head of Healthcare Projects from Pinsent Masons also presented an overview about Pinsent Masons, their global reach and PPP in the Health Sector.

    Later on, Chinese and British investors and entrepreneurs discussed topics around health care, such as; Mr. Richard Pharro, the president of APMG shared their successful cases in their public-private partnerships (PPP) that were accepted by Chinese government. Mr. Lei ZHOU, the CEO of Dragonboat Investment introduced the process and experience to everyone about China PPP exchanges with the outside world. Other topics discussed were the latest developments in medical devices, the impact of the evolution of the CFDA policy on British companies, the development of medical tourism and so on.

    Venture companies were invited to talk about their projects in the last part of the conference. Professor James Scott from the University of Medicine at Imperial University introduced the project of cancer drug development and how the advanced technology had a profound impact on the participants. The following entrepreneurs’ presentation covered private medical care, medical devices, drug development and medical investment services.

    Dr. Luke ZHOU, the founder of Beyondlaboratory, said in an interview, the main mission of the conference was to deliver information about the readily available resources of China and cooperation with the British companies, and to share the latest medical topics and policies. Also stating that, Beyondlaboratory would continue further bilateral cooperation through the establishment of incubators in the UK, roadshows in China, strengthening the communication with Chinese government and other initiatives, to better help enterprises and investors to promote the development of Sino British in the medical care field.

    The conference used simultaneous translations of Chinese and English to achieve barrier-free communications. Online and offline models were used to broadcast the event live, such as through Wechat groups: London Medical Marketplace Group and Confederation of Chinese Business UK: High-Tech Group. More than 400 online viewers participated in the Conference and interacted through texts and pictures. All participants felt they benefited from the MarketPlace event, helping them to gain knowledge, finding new business opportunities and potential partners.

    At the end of the Conference, organisers announced that they would hold a similar meeting in October next year with even more opportunities to match Chinese investors and partners with UK in medical care companies.
